The History of Soviet Airborne Forces (Cass Series on Soviet Military Theory and Practice, 6)
Published in Paperback by Frank Cass & Co (June, 1994)
Author: David M. Glantz
Average review score:

An excellently researched study.
An excellently researched and balanced study of small unit actions. Best I've ever read with credit being given to both sides. The author accompanies the narrative with dozens of good maps and leads the reader very smoothly through a rather complicated entanglement of fighting on the Russian front. Highly recommended.

Industry and Air Power: The Expansion of British Aircraft Production, 1935-41 (Cass Series--Studies in Air Power, 4.)
Published in Paperback by Frank Cass & Co (June, 1997)
Author: Sebastian Ritchie
Average review score:

How Britain's aircraft industry prepared for war
The aurhor is a historian with the British Ministry of Defense so this is a semi-official history. In the late thirties the RAF started a program to expand the production capabilities of the British aircraft industry to cope with the needs of the anticipated war. This book describes how this program was handled. The only criticism one might make is that the lenngth of the book is too short (283 pages) to completely cover such a large subject.

Excellent Coverage of the Italian Political View in the 30's
This book really digs into how Mussolini and other high ranking Italian officials viewed the strategic situation in the Med. Sea during the 30's. It also describes Italy's situation (both economically and militarily). As the 30's progressed, Italy's alliances and foriegn policy changed. It is interesting to see how this happened, and why. Author did a very fine and detailed job. Very highly researched material. A must for any navy buff interested in Med naval warfare in WWII!

Military Training in the British Army, 1940-1944: From Dunkirk to D-Day (Cass Series--Military History and Policy, No. 6)
Published in Hardcover by Frank Cass & Co (November, 2000)
Authors: Timothy Harrison Place and Timothy Harrison-Place
Average review score:

Military Training in the British Army
Definately for the serious WW2 historian. This book is well researched and organized. It provides an interesting contrast to the experience of the novice American army as it prepared for war. As the senior partner in the Western Allied coalition during the initial phase of the conflict, the British often spoke of the lack of American combat experience in disparaging terms. The author presents a convincing portrait of an army that failed to fully glean the lessons of modern war from its own hard won lessons, in sharp contrast to their "junior" American partners.
